When Trust is Broken, How Do We Find Truth in Today’s Headlines

Good News Hunting

I’m sitting here with my morning coffee reading the headlines for the day. When you read, watch, or listen to the news, have you ever said to yourself, “I don’t know what or who to believe anymore.” Some days, it feels like it’s getting harder to know who to trust or even where to look for honest, reliable news.

Recent studies show I’m not the only one who feels that way. In fact, according to one poll, 70% of Americans say they have little or no trust in the media. That’s an astonishing number! So, I dug a little deeper on the subject. Turns out, we’ve lost our trust for a mix of reasons, which I explore in my latest piece for The Washington Institute for Faith, Vocation and Culture

One thing I learned in my research is this: how we became skeptical matters less than how we choose to respond to the current moment. Do we throw up our hands and simply unplug, cancel the paper, delete the social media accounts? Tempting, but not a very practical solution. In my article, Good News Hunting: Finding Truth in Today’s Headlines, I recommend some healthy habits and offer a few useful tools to help you with your own news sifting.
